Quattro: The Baron

The Baron is at Castle Towers, nice and close =) Located next to Games Workshop, not many people seem to know about this place because you need to walk out to HSBC bank and towards the left before you can see it...

Their blend? Single Origin.

Inside is a somewhat small but cosy cafe that turns into a bar at night too.

Their cap uses chocolate flakes instead of powder~ and yay for latte art. Definitely would go there for coffee, arguably the best around that area... but then again, there aren't very many cafes around Castle Hill... and colourful saucers and teacups must be in trend at the moment, see them everywhere now, unless they are part of Single Origin's... just like how Toby's Estate classic black teacups and saucers (which I quite like).

This was their special of the day, corn fritters with bacon and maple syrup. I tried bacon and maple syrup just once before this, when I was still at usyd. There was a cafe while walking from Redfern to uni that I visited once and had breakfast. Interesting combination, and since it's bacon, I can't possibly dislike it.

This is no ordinary sandwich. Coined "No.2", this was a "Jamon, washed rind cheese, aioli, sundried tomatoes and pickles sandwich".

From 06.12
Jamon is apparently some sort of cured ham. Kinda like prosciutto.

Take note, sourdough lovers. This is REAL sourdough. I cannot get over their sourdough bread actually, and I particularly love the grains and seeds in it. I don't know if they bake their own bread there, but you can see loaves of it behind the counter... would like to know their supplier!

Oh yea, they do lunches too, but then they run out of food pretty quickly, so plan early! And because the place is so small, you'd expect to queue up sometime to get a seat. We went at around 10am before badminton, by around 10:20am, there was a queue... so this is definitely not one of the cafes where you can just sit there for hours and do homework. I had a look one night to see what they do to the place during dinner... it's quite nice, they dim the lights right down and put candles on each table, so they're going for the rustic romantic ambiance. No coffee at night though! =(

Short entry tonight! Need sleep! Just failed another baking attempt too, so am feeling slightly dejected. I think I won't change occupation after all... stick to music... there are just some things that one don't have the talent for, and sadly, I'm finding baking and badminton these days are my shortcomings. Sad too, because they were... and are still... my passion and interests...

At least there's music! Thou shalt not fail me! *cue Rachmaninoff's piano concerto 2*

I went to The Baron for lunch a few weeks ago. It's really good! We got complementary bread with pate, cheese and olives! :D The food was not that expensive cos it's shared (like tapas but bigger).

You need to try their sandwiches, though they do run out fairly quickly! I did try their bread with pate and also their rosemary potatoes, but I thought they only did those during the evening.

Oops! I meant I went for dinner (not lunch) >< so maybe the bread is only available at night...
